Day 10

Lighthouse International

For more than 106 years, Lighthouse International has led the charge in the fight against vision loss through prevention, treatment and empowerment.

Lighthouse International also has the The Filomen M. D’Agostino Greenberg Music School that is "dedicated to helping people pursue their interest in, and study of, music while overcoming the challenges posed by vision loss."

This Saturday is their Sixth Annual Music School Performathon.

  1. I found this bit of history interesting: "Fashion has played an integral role in philanthropy for Lighthouse International, ever since sisters Winifred and Edith Holt used their dress allowances to help fund the organization in 1905." It sounds like it'd be great fun to go to one of the organization's POSH events and see the clothing people have donated. (And now I wonder who Winifred and Edith were. And how much their dress allowances were!)

  2. Ah, the answers are in the Lighthouse History section of the website! :) Also, Wikipedia: Winifred was a sculptor, and her page shows a few of her pieces.
